I love the clarity with which you make your argument. I’m still on the fence about it — but more convinced than before. At the end of the day, because I agree there’s a politics to all of this, I like the small “w” in “white” while also interrogating whiteness/Whiteness. Likewise, I’m reflecting on why I write “holocaust,” not because I’m not horrified by the mass murder of Jews under the Nazis but because so many other holocausts under the “Allies” are never acknowledged… Thanks for this essay and all of the questions it raises. I think I’ll raise the question in my classes this fall and see what the students think.
