Fascism is a Global Threat

I first saw this popular image painted on walls at Indian universities — where it signifies fascism as both Nazism and Hindutva.

In the US, the long history of white supremacy is completely intertwined with this legacy. In other countries, other ideological and structural inequalities get intertwined with it. It’s a global response to crisis from the right, taking shape in different places according to their histories.

Jan 17, 2021 is a good day to remember this.

Fascism can’t be legislated away. Police and military presence can’t save us from fascism — because it emerges from the rot of the same economic, political, and social system that produces and is defended by the capitalist state.

Only a mass response on the ground can ultimately curb the threat.
